Field of Screams: Sharks of the Corn

This year is shaping up to be a vintage one for shark thrillers, with several high profile features set to be released. Adding to that field - quite literally - is Sharks of the Corn.

We've had ghost sharks, house sharks, sand sharks, but nothing could possibly prepare us for Sharks of the Corn. That's right, sharks in a field. Smile, you son of a pitch fork!

It's pitched as Jaws meets Children of the Corn, and looks as er corny as hell. Looking at the trailer, what it lacks in budget and seemingly story as well, may see this low budget shark film out of its depth.

What Jaws fan - he said that "you're gonna need a bigger boat" is one of his favourite film quotes - and original author of the short story Children of the Corn, Stephen King's reaction is to it is anyone's guess? We probably think it would be something like this one from Creepshow.

As for the story, well, it involves a shark worshipping cult, a murderer who uses shark jaws in his crimes and a rising body count. It's up to Druid Hills police chief, Vera Scheider (we see what they did there), to sort it out. In Druid Hills one woman can make a difference. No doubt there will be other Jaws nods aplenty.

Sharks of the Corn is directed by Tim Ritter and is set to be released on July 6th, with the studio optimistically calling it a "demented mix mash of humour, terror, and pure adrenaline rush shark action!"

Of course, you could say that the Jaws series has long taken its influence from Stephen King books.
