The Requin: Shark Survival Thriller Set To Take A Bite Of Box Office This Summer

June, as we all know, is when Jaws first graced US cinema screens back in the summer of 1975.

This June, it's hoped that the screens will be full of shark related screams once again, this time for The Requin. Requin, meaning great white shark in French. You can see where this is going can't you?

The forthcoming film - which was announced by Deadline - finds a couple, played by Alicia Silverstone (Clueless, Batman and Robin) and James Tupper (Big Little Lies), stranded at sea off the coast of Vietnam.

A tropical storm has washed away their holiday villa, but they aren't the only ones in the water. Can the couple survive the elements and a Great White shark tracking their every move?

The Requin, written and directed by Le-Van Kiet (who also helmed martial arts action film Furie), is just one of several shark survival thrillers set to grace our screens - big or small - this or next year. Here's more details of those shiver of shark films: SHARK MOVIES COMING IN IN2021

It's set to be released in the US by Saban Films and is currently deep in post production, with a reported 1,000 visual effects shots set to whet our shark film loving appetites.

Fittingly, The Requin filmed at Universal Studios in Orlando. The very same studio that released Jaws more than four decades ago.

Will The Requin get you swimming back to the cinema?
