THE SHARK IS BROKEN SAILS RADIO WAVES IN BBC INTERVIEW

The CB radio in Jaws may have taking something of a bashing by Quint (Robert Shaw) but Ian Shaw - playing his dad playing Quint in The Shark Is Broken - has headed to the radio waves to talk about the plays forthcoming West End debut.

He's certifiable alright, certifiably brilliant - both on stage and on co-writing duties - and The Daily Jaws saw it at one of its two preview shows ahead of it taking the Edinburgh Festival by storm in 2019.

After seeing it we knew it was gonna need a bigger venue. This was Jaws history unfolding in front of our very eyes.

Ian was on Radio 4's The Film Programme with Emma Thomas, herself a huge Jaws fan, and talked about how the Indianapolis speech came about, and how Ian himself prepared for the delivering of one of cinemas greatest monologues. He even gives us an electric excerpt from it in character, which is reason enough to buy a ticket for the show alone.

Ian Shaw spoke about the huge reservations he had about not just stepping into his father's shoes, but so taking on the legacy of Jaws. He also tells us how, originally, Robert Shaw didn't want to take on the role of Quint, but as filming progressed he could tell that Steven Spielberg was a safe pair of (city) hands and that it would be a hit.

You can catch that interview 11 minutes into The Film Programme in the BBC Sounds link here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000zmj8

And The Daily Jaws have been fortunate to interview Shaw twice, one as a written interview and the second over Instagram live.

We all know that The Shark Is Broken - like everything else - got postponed from its West End debut because of Covid. But there was another Jaws-related project that Ian kindly got involved in.

He provided a surprise introduction to The Jaws WeMake, which we produced alongside over 100 other Jaws fans from around the world during lockdown.

His involvement wasn't unveiled until the project’s debut on YouTube on June 20, 2020, 45 years to the day since Jaws was released across US cinema screens. You can see Ian’s intro here: Jaws WeMake — THE DAILY JAWS

The rest, as they say is history. The Shark Is Broken is history in the making then, giving us a behind the scenes peek at the trials and tribulations of making the world's first summer blockbuster.

Those setbacks, the shark not working and the famous run in between Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss are as legendary as the scenes in the actual film itself. The Shark Is Broken is a must see for not just Jaws fans, but fans of modern cinema.

Being in the audience is just like being the fourth crew member on Orca.

The show starts its run at The Ambassadors Theatre on Saturday 9 October and runs until Saturday 15 January 2022. You can step aboard and get your tickets below.
