FINAL REHEARSALS FOR NEW JAWS PLAY THE SHARK IS BROKEN UNDERWAY

As the excitement for the opening of The Shark Is Broken grows, rehearsal images have been released featuring the cast going through their paces on the Orca.

Although Ian Shaw (playing his dad, Robert Shaw), Demetri Goritsas (Roy Scheider) and Liam Murray Scott (Richard Dreyfuss) aren’t dressed exactly as if they were on the set of Jaws back in 1974, it gives you a fin-tastic insight into just how amazing this play – which opens in the West End at The Ambassadors Theatre on Saturday 9 October.

Four images were released, with one showing a relaxed and pleased looking Liam Murray Scott (Richard Dreyfuss) with his arms folded, perhaps finding out that Matt Hooper gets to drive the boat.

Another, we have a more serious looking (Roy Scheider) with Ian Shaw (Robert Shaw) facing away from the camera, perhaps showcasing some of the tension on the set of the actual film.

And then, we have Ian Shaw (Robert Shaw) sat with his cup in hand, which to any fan of Jaws is unmistakable as being a moment from the USS Indianapolis speech, which to hear that delivered in the same room in the same tone as was in the film, is reason enough for buying a ticket alone.

Finally, there is a shot of all three actors sat on the floor, in front of the familiar Orca table and seating, showing what looks like a lighter moment from the making of Jaws, and that it wasn’t all full of tension and rivalry between Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss.

Dean Newman, head of content at The Daily Jaws, the world’s number one Jaws website, explained why it was great – and important - to see the rehearsal images.

He said: “Even after almost 50 years, there is an insatiable appetite for all things Jaws, including The Shark Is Broken, which is arguably the biggest thing to happen to Jaws since the release of the original Steven Spielberg film in 1975.

“The behind-the-scenes images and story of the making of the first summer blockbuster, first told in The Jaws Log by Carl Gottlieb, and now about to be retold on stage in this play, have always been fascinating. It is only natural that Jaws fans are just as interested in behind-the-scenes images of the play that is about the behind-the-scenes actions on Jaws. It’s a wonderful echo of Jaws history repeating.”

And The Daily Jaws has been announced as a media partner for The Shark Is Broken, so you can expect more shots, interviews and insights from behind the curtain of this must-see play for fans of Jaws, film and theatre alike.
