Jaws WeMake Is A Smash Hit With Fans

When ‘Jaws’ premiered in cinemas back in 1975, Steven Spielberg must have been a nervous wreck. We say this because when the 2 minute countdown to the premiere of our 45th anniversary tribute ‘Jaws WeMake’, we certainly weren’t at our usually calm and composed best.

‘Jaws WeMake’ was an idea we’d been considering for a long time. We alway knew how passionate and creative our followers are - just check our DMs! So how cool would it be to have Jaws fans around the world come together in the form of a ‘wemake’? A wemake being a fan-made recreation of a famous movie, song, play etc.

Jaws WeMake is a fan-made tribute celebrating 45 years of Jaws.

Our biggest concern was going to have enough material to complete a fair representation of the movie’s key moments and overall story but the biggest challenge by far was having the time for create, edit and promote. Lockdown provided the time people needed so we announced the project as a remedy to quarantine and set the goal to premiere the film on Saturday 20th June, 2020 - 45 years to the day that Jaws released.

When the release date came around, we planned to watch and enjoy with our friends and families, looking to them for any indication as to how the wider audience may be reacting to what we had produced.

BBC weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker cameoed as a reporter (originally played by Jaws author Peter Benchley)

British comedian Tim Vine appears throughout playing multiple characters and providing some shark effects for the finale.

As the screen faded in from black and viewers were unexpectedly greeted by Ian Shaw (son of Jaws actor Robert Shaw), expressions of surprise and delight filled the room and excited comments started to fill the live chat. Once Ian had delivered a heartfelt introduction, setting the perfect tone for the main feature, we realised we may have something very special on our hands. As the movie went on, the more the incredible feedback kept coming from fans.

Once the premiere was over, we headed back over to Twitter to find out what the fans were saying and we were blown away by the responses - take a look for yourself:
