Orca To Surface On Blu Ray

Whale, I never. We've been that focused on the impending Jaws 4K release - we guarantee it won't have that cover, I mean why would you. We'd bet our holiday roast on it - that we almost missed the news that Orca is set to splash onto blu ray in North America for the very first time.

Orca was essentially Jaws with a Killer Whale, with Richard Harris instead of Robert Shaw and Ennio Morricone on scoring duties instead of John Williams. It was one of a slew of films to ride on the coat tails - or should that be tail fins - of the Steven Spielberg thriller. We featured it as part of our Jaws with... article here: ‘Jaws With’

No extras have been announced yet on the Orca bluray, but it would certainly be great if we got a Morricone isolated score, a commentary or two and even a detailed making of like we got on the Jaws bluray. The bluray is set to be released at the end of June, so we could see it squaring up against the much mooted 4K release of Jaws: ‘Jaws: What The 4K Is That Cover?‘

The Orca is the only natural predator of the Great White, so it was fitting that Quint's boat was named Orca in Jaws.

Sending a clear message to cinemagoers (and Great Whites) a Great White is taken out by an Orca at the start of the film. Not to be outdone, the producers of Jaws 2 had a memorable scene where a dead Killer Whale is washed up on the beach after a tussle with a Great White.

And Great White Sharks and Orca are set to clash again, as it was announced earlier this year that Sam Worthington is set to star in the thriller, Alphas
