Ten years of The Daily Jaws: A decade of fandom, fins, and friendship
10 years ago today The Daily Jaws was born....and now with over 370,000 followers and content reaching millions every month, I am so grateful to each & every one of you for helping TDJ become the largest and most active JAWS online community ever created.
While I’ve always aimed at putting JAWS first, here are a few of my personal favorite moments of this incredible journey.
IG was the first….
The IG post that started it all..... on 29 May 2015, I had an idea to use social media and celebrate the 40th anniversary my favourite movie JAWS. Little did I know what the next decade had in store....
Los Angeles
A few months after starting The Daily Jaws, I got the chance to fly out to Los Angeles to meet two JAWS legends but first, I made a stop off at a store packed with JAWS stuff. I could barely contain myself…
Carl and Joe
I met Joe Alves and Carl Gottlieb in Los Angeles in 2015 a few months after I started TDJ. Joe and Carl were so enthusiastic about The Daily Jaws and where it could go.
10 years on I am honored to call them friends.
JAWS WeMake
In 2020, over 100 JAWS fans from around the world spent part of the Covid-19 lockdown creating their own unique social distanced fan made version of JAWS.
And they've never met, the only thing uniting them their love of JAWS and being on lockdown.
JAWS WeMake even made the press with articles in The Guardian and even the Martha’s Vineyard Times. The pres thought we were crazy but loved the idea and I will forever appreciate their support.
Dean and Jeffrey
Dean has played a pivotal role in the growth and development of TDJ having written many of the blogs you’ve read and lead our lockdown project ‘JAWS WeMake’
Jeffrey Kramer is a hero, legend and friend. I am truly blessed to have him in my life.
Clapperboard
During a visit to the BFI in London, I was lucky enough to get to see and hold the original clapperboard Steven Spielberg was photographed with on the Orca.
The clapperboard went on to be sold at auction to an anonymous bidder for £70,000. Rumour has it Spielberg.
Greg Nicotero
I met Greg at a Walker Stalker in London back in 2017. He shared that he had acquired the ‘Junkyard Jaws’ Bruce mold and was restoring it for display in the Academy Museum. I had to keep this a secret for 4 YEARS!!
Greg has remained a good friend and source of support ever since.
Meeting Chrissie
I met Susan Backlinie (Chrissie Watkins) at a fan event in 2018. She was tiny but her queue was the largest by a lonnnnng way!
Susan was kind, funny and so generous with her time with all the people who wanted to meet her. I’m just sorry we didn’t get a chance to record an interview before passed away last year.
The Shark Is Broken
When Ian Shaw announced he had co-written a play about the making of JAWS and that he would play his father Robert, TDJ understood the significance of this for both Ian and the JAWS legacy so it was a privilege to partner as official media partner for the show.
For me, The Shark Is Broken is the ultimate and most meaningful JAWS companion piece.
JAWS @ 50
This photo was taken in October last year while shooting my interview for Laurent Bouzereau’s upcoming documentary 'JAWS @ 50' produced by @Amblin, featuring Steven Spielberg. An absolute privilege to be included in something so special. JAWS @ 50 airs this summer on NatGeo.
JAWS @ 50 hails from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Documentaries and Nedland Films, in partnership with Wendy Benchley and Laura Bowling, and is this summer’s only authorized documentary on the making of "Jaws," with the award-winning director himself diving back into the story that launched his career and earned him final cut on the film, a creative control he has maintained for the last 50 years. The documentary premieres July 10 at 9/8c on National Geographic and streams the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
What makes The Daily Jaws exceptional isn’t just its content — it’s the community. Over the past ten years, it has amassed hundreds of thousands of followers across platforms, attracting filmmakers, scholars, collectors, and superfans. Whether it’s a new fan discovering Jaws for the first time or a seasoned aficionado who saw it on opening night in 1975, the platform offers a welcoming space to share stories, theories, and the occasional “You're gonna need a bigger boat” meme.
Through curated conversations and interactive campaigns, The Daily Jaws has created a digital ocean where fans from all walks of life gather to celebrate one of cinema’s greatest thrillers.
Jaws taught us that what you don’t see can be the most terrifying of all. But what we’ve clearly seen over the last ten years is a thriving, passionate, and creative community — and The Daily Jaws is at its center. Here’s to ten years of fandom, fear, and fins — and to many more.
