In an unexpected but powerful alliance between rock and marine conservation, legendary guitarist Slash has lent his voice to a growing movement aimed at ending the captivity of dolphins worldwide. Best known for his role in Guns N’ Roses and his lifelong fascination with sharks—sparked by the iconic thriller Jaws—Slash is now turning his attention to another misunderstood group of marine animals. By supporting Dolphin Project, an organization dedicated to protecting dolphins from exploitation in marine parks and entertainment venues, he is helping shine a spotlight on an issue that often remains hidden behind the glossy façade of aquatic shows.

Dolphin Project has long advocated for the ethical treatment of cetaceans, campaigning against their capture, breeding, and confinement. With Slash’s backing, the initiative gains not only celebrity visibility but also a passionate advocate who understands the deep connection between humans and the ocean’s most intelligent inhabitants. As awareness grows, so too does the urgency to rethink how society interacts with marine life—transforming admiration into action.

Like many of us after watching JAWS, we fell in love with the ocean and the amazing creatures that call it home. When these creatures are taken from that home for our entertainment, we need to speak up for them. So its great and important to see people like Slash lend their voice and fame to shine a light on organisations like Ric O’Barry’s Dolphin Poject.

Ric O’Barry’s Dolphin Project

The mission of Dolphin Project is to end dolphin exploitation and slaughter, as dolphins are routinely captured, harassed, slaughtered and sold into captivity around the world – all in the name of profit. Dolphin Project works not only to halt these slaughters, but also to rehabilitate captive dolphins for retirement and/or release, investigate and advocate for economic alternatives to dolphin slaughter, and to put a permanent end to dolphin captivity.
