Street to be renamed after JAWS 2 actor and rock star brother

In his memoir "Unrequited Infatuations," published in 2021, Steven Van Zandt delves into his upbringing in Middletown and various other aspects of his life.

“My first epiphany came at the age of ten, in 1961, in my room at 263 Wilson Avenue, New Monmouth, Middletown, New Jersey, during my fifty-fifth consecutive time listening to ‘Pretty Little Angel Eyes’ by Curtis Lee,” he wrote, adding later in the book that listening to that song triggered “a rush of exultation. The music had released my endorphins in a new and unexpected way.”

On April 26th at 11 a.m., Wilson Avenue will undergo a ceremonial renaming to Van Zandt Way, paying tribute to both Steven Van Zandt and his brother, Billy Van Zandt, known for his work as a playwright, producer, actor, and Emmy-nominated television writer. Although the street's official name will remain Wilson Avenue, Van Zandt Way signs will be installed at different points along the route.

Billy Van Zandt played ‘Bob’ in JAWS 2 (1978)

Middletown was a great place to grow up. Our neighbors were like family. Still are. I only wish my parents were here to see this. It’s all very surreal and I absolutely love it.
— Billy Van Zandt

Both Steven and Billy Van Zandt are expected to be present at the April 26th event, as confirmed by Middletown Township's communications director, Tara Berson. The ceremony will be hosted by Middletown Township native Brian Williams, with the participation of officials from the New Jersey Hall of Fame and Middletown Township.
