Shark-tacular exhibition opens at Witte Museum this Saturday
SAN ANTONIO – Get ready for a jaw-dropping experience as the Witte Museum unveils its new blockbuster exhibition dedicated to sharks this Saturday.
From May 25 to September 2, visitors can explore 10 scientifically accurate, life-sized models of sharks from around the world and engage with unique artifacts and tactile displays at the Mays Family Center.
This exciting "Sharks" exhibition will be presented alongside "Surviving Space: Astronauts & Asteroids" at the Witte.
"Created by the Australian Museum, 'Sharks' delves into the incredible diversity of these ancient and often misunderstood creatures, showcasing the latest scientific discoveries and cultural stories from across the globe," the Witte announced in a press release.
Spanning 10,000 square feet, the exhibition examines the genetic diversity, habitats, interactions, and ecological importance of sharks.
“Sharks are incredible! They predate dinosaurs and have survived multiple mass extinctions,” said Dirk Elmendorf, CEO & President of the Witte Museum. “Their fascinating history and biology make sharks a captivating subject. We’re thrilled to bring this exhibition to San Antonio, offering visitors a close encounter with these remarkable creatures—without the danger.”
Featured shark models include the extinct 270-million-year-old Helicoprion (the buzzsaw shark), the bull shark, the Great White shark, the tiger shark, the grey nurse shark, and the hammerhead shark.
Tickets for the "Sharks" exhibition require an additional $10 surcharge on top of regular museum admission. Reserve your tickets at WitteMuseum.org.
