JAWS director Steven Spielberg's next movie to surface in May 2026

Steven Spielberg's next film is set to premiere in theaters on May 15, 2026, according to an announcement made Thursday by Universal and Amblin Entertainment.

This untitled project is being touted as an original event film, both created and directed by the legendary Spielberg. However, specific details about the plot are still under wraps.

The screenplay, based on a story by Spielberg, is penned by his long-time collaborator David Koepp. Koepp has previously worked with Spielberg on blockbusters like Jurassic Park and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which together grossed over $3 billion globally.

Spielberg's most recent directorial effort was the semi-autobiographical film The Fabelmans, released in 2022. Distributed by Universal and produced by Amblin, The Fabelmans earned seven Academy Award nominations, including nods for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actor.

Spielberg is widely regarded as one of the most successful and influential filmmakers in the industry, holding the title of the highest-grossing director of all time. His impressive portfolio of blockbuster films includes Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones series, and Jurassic Park.

A three-time Oscar winner, Spielberg won Best Director and Best Picture for Schindler's List, which took home a total of seven Oscars, and Best Director for Saving Private Ryan.
