Resident of JAWS shooting location wins big on JAWS lottery!
A resident of Martha’s Vineyard struck it rich this week by winning $1 million in a lottery game inspired by the movie Jaws.
Gecimar Silva, a seasoned painter from Tisbury, collected his winnings at the Massachusetts Lottery headquarters in Dorchester on Friday, choosing to receive a lump sum payment of $650,000, as confirmed by lottery officials.
Having resided on the Island for 18 years, Mr. Silva purchased the Jaws ticket from Depot Market in Edgartown due to its novelty and the film's connection to the area. He disclosed to lottery officials that he hadn’t taken a vacation in 30 years and intends to use his windfall to travel to Florida.
As a result of selling the winning ticket, the Edgartown store will receive a $10,000 bonus.
The Jaws-themed scratch tickets were introduced in March to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the iconic film. In addition to cash prizes, ticket holders have the chance to win a trip to the Island and participate in a Jaws-themed game show organized by the lottery.
