Hurricane Milton, a powerful storm from the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, has been particularly devastating. Initially forming in early October, it rapidly intensified into a Category 5 hurricane, driven by unusually warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico. This rapid intensification made it one of the strongest late-season storms on record, with peak winds reaching 180 mph.
After making landfall in Florida as a Category 3 hurricane, Milton caused widespread destruction, with over 3 million homes and businesses losing power. The storm also brought deadly tornadoes, storm surges, and severe flooding to major cities like Tampa and Orlando. Rescue operations were in full swing, as damage to infrastructure included collapsed cranes and destroyed homes(
Although the storm has since weakened, its impacts continue to be felt across Florida.
