Jaws references cut from name list for Cape Cod’s new ferries

You're not gonna get a Bigger Boat ferry thanks to the Steamship Authority in Cape Cod, who have culled names from a longlist of potentials, which had initially included several Jaws references.

Well, this was not a boat naming accident, as the Authority is seeking a more local name that captures Cape Cod's ‘local flavour and/or maritime history.'

Names dropped faster than the estuary victim's leg include Jaws, Amity, Great White and sadly Bigger Boat, especially as those proportions for the latter were indeed correct.

Dean Newman, Head of Content at The Daily Jaws, which is the world's number one Jaws fan site, said: "Their decision is certifiable, who wouldn't have loved to have been told that you're gonna need a Bigger Boat?

"Jaws fans would have booked tickets and spent their summer dollars to just go on a boat with that name, but sadly it is not going to be."

It is expected that the two ferries will start carrying passengers in the summer of 2023, with names being announced at the end of this month.

Here is that final list that the names will be chosen from. If you take a closer look at that list though, you'll spot that there is still one name with a Jaws connection, Menemsha.

This was the filming location of Quint's workshop, the 'cage goes in the water' scene and where Brody, Hooper and Quint set out to sea on the Orca, giving that iconic shot of Quint's boat framed in the shark jaws.
