Comedy classic Clue featuring JAWS actor headed to 4K

You can catch The Shark Is Broken from 25th July 2023 at the Golden Theater, New York, NYC.

Clue, based on the popular murder boardgame of the same name (Cluedo in the UK) was turned into a comedy film in 1985, with an amazing cast featuring a tour de force Tim Curry and fantastic support from the likes of Christopher Lloyd, Eileen Brennan, Michael McKean, Colleen Camp, Lesley Ann Warren, Martin Mull and Madeline Kahn.

Also featuring – in a quite literally blink and you’ll miss it role – is Jeffrey Kramer, who played Deputy Hendricks in JAWS and JAWS 2.

Even though the film was released 10 years after Steven Spielberg’s monster hit, it is still unmistakably Hendricks – he even gets to wear a hat! Kramer was also back on the big screen later that same year with the release of Santa Claus: The Movie, which was directed by none other than Jeannot Szwarc, who helmed JAWS 2 (1978).

The Jonathan Lynn directed movie was from a script by Lynn and John Landis – another JAWS connection as he was on set when the pier incident scene was being filmed – is now set to be released on 4K thanks to Shout Factory in the US, with a release date of December 12, 2023. It would be a crime to miss this masterful and witty whodunnit. It may be a board came, but you’ll never be bord – plus keep an eye out for the multiple endings.

Think of it as the perfect triple bill with Murder By Death and Knives Out, showing studios how to do a toy to film adaptation years before Transformers, Battleships and Barbie. It may not have set the box office alight on its initial release, but it has kept those embers burning ever since and continues to be discovered and appreciated by audiences anew.
