STREAMING SERVICE NETS JAWS DIRECTOR, STEVEN SPEILBERG
Steven Spielberg’s production company, Amblin Partners, has signed a multi-picture deal to produce numerous films a year for Netflix.
In the wake of Disney Plus, HBO Max and Amazon's recent purchase of MGM, Netflix perhaps felt they were gonna need a bigger boat to continue to bring in the subscribers.
Well, you don't get any bigger than the director of Jaws, E.T. and Jurassic Park, all at one point the highest grossing films of all time.
Bloomberg have called it 'a game-changing announcement' and said the partnership is like 'the Jaws music for the rest of the streaming industry.'
Of course, that doesn't say or mean that we'll see a Spielberg directed film specifically for Netflix, and he's still got the release of West Side Story and is in pre-production on The Fabelmans. But with that associated name comes kudos, and they did get his good friend Martin Scorsese for The Irishman.
Things just got interesting again in the world of streaming, and with Spielberg's company on board that could chum the waters for more cinematic talent to the platform.
All the more fitting then that Jaws is currently available to watch - and is trending - on the service in the UK.
Netflix, as you know, means friendship.
