THE MEG 2 DIRECTOR IS MASSIVE JAWS FAN

Ben Wheatley, the director of The Meg 2, has said in a recent interview that he is a huge fan of Jaws. Who isn't, right?

Hopefully, that's good news for those looking forward to the sequel to the monster successful The Meg (2018). Once again it will be headlined by Jason Statham, and a ruddy great Megalodon shark.

Wheatley expressed his love for the Steven Spielberg shark classic from 1975 in an exclusive interview with Zavvi. He told that he's already been heavily involved in pre-production for the last few months.

British director Ben Wheatley is helming The Meg 2.

He said: “I’ve spent the last six or seven months just storyboarding and working out massive, massive action sequences for Statham to be menaced by giant, prehistoric fish!”

And giant monsters, whether it is the surprise box office success of the original The Meg, or the more recent likes of Godzilla Vs Kong, can only bode well. The latter is one of the few films to have performed well since cinemas opened back up.

Clearly people want to see giant monsters on the big screen. And, like many around the same age, Wheatley is a sucker for some monster stomping - or swimming - action.

Ben added: “They’re good fun. I’ve always loved them and the Kaiju stuff – and I’m a massive fan of Jaws so it’s the best of both worlds really.”

The Meg (2018) starred Jason Statham as Jonas Taylor who returns for the sequel The Meg 2: The Trench

Well, we think that can only mean good vibes for this giant shark sequel. Let's hope cinema goers are still in the market for giant sea monsters.

The Meg sits only behind Jaws and Jaws 2 as the most successful shark film of all time. No pressure: Jaws Still Leads Box Office As World's Highest Grossing Shark Movie
