Great White Shark Film Set To Surface On DVD
The Australian shark thriller, Great White, makes its debut on DVD in the UK on May 17th.
That news was first mentioned on Bloody Flicks, by Paul Downey - who has also contributed to The Daily Jaws - and marks the first of this year's hotly anticipated shark films to reach our screens: Shark Movies Coming In 2021
It glides into view with a robust shark film pedigree (pedigree chum?) that certainly doesn't lack bite, with one of its producers having served the same duties on The Reef (2010) and executive producers who have been involved in the 47 Meters Down series.
Taking its cue from real events, Great White follows a seaplane pilot and his girlfriend who stop to help an upturned boat whilst they are chartering a wealthy couple.
They get far more than they bargained for when the plane is destroyed and they have to survive the elements - and a Great White shark - in the suitably named Hell's Reef.
All that separates them is a life raft, will they make the 100 mile journey to safety before they run out of supplies...or will they run out of luck with the shark?
It stars Katrina Bowden, no stranger to dangerous fish in the water after appearing in Piranha 3DD, she also starred in Tucker and Dale Vs Evil.
It also features Aaron Jakubenko, who some may remember as Robbo Slade in Neighbours. He's far from the first Australian former soap star to grapple with sharks though.
Sharni Vinson (Cassie Turner in Home and Away), Lincoln Lewis (Geoff Campbell in Home and Away) and Julian McMahon (Ben Lucini in Home and Away) all appeared in shark in a flooded supermarket thriller, Bait (2012). We listed that as one of the top ten shark films of the last decade, here: Best Shark Movies Of The Decade (2010-2019)
The director of Great White is Martin Wilson, and this is his feature film debut, though the trailer has already been sparking lots of interest from followers of The Daily Jaws.
Part of the film was shot at North Queens Beach on the Redcliffe Peninsula, just north of Brisbane.
Jaws fans will remember that Matt Hooper says in the film that he doesn't need to go to Brisbane as he has a Great White shark right here, in Amity.
Where Great White will sit in the pantheon of shark thrillers is yet unknown, but Jaws and shark film fans are sure to lap up another entry into the water-based thriller section.
