Deep Blue Sea 3 Is Coming Soon
Deep Blue Sea 2 may not have been the Jaws 2 of shark sequels but that doesn't stop Deep Blue Sea 3 getting a release this July.
The second shark sequel to the Renny Harlin hit from 1999 is set to break the surface at the end of July this year, but whether that is video on demand (VOD) or onto the likes of Netflix has yet to be confirmed by Warner Bros.
The original Samuel L. Jackson and Thomas Jane starrer featured mako sharks as the foe, with the sequel - not a follow on but essentially a rehash of the same story - passing the baton to bull sharks. According to the write up from IMDB we might see great white sharks enter the franchise for the first time.
The website says: Dr. Emma Collins and her team are spending their third summer on the island of Little Happy (obviously only an island if you look at it from the water) studying the effect of climate change on the great white sharks who come to the nearby nursery every year to give birth. However, their peaceful life is disrupted when a "scientific" team shows up looking for three bull sharks.
We can't imagine it will end well for the majority of the cast, but we'll have to see whether this franchise has got legs (dangling from the mouths of ravenous intelligent sharks one presumes) for a fourth instalment, which would take it on par with the Jaws series. Deep Blue Sea is still held in high regard and is often found thrashing for second place behind Jaws in favourite shark film lists. In fact both Jaws and Deep Blue Sea are bonded by cinematic blood: Deep Blue Sea & Jaws: Bonded By Blood
