YouTuber recreates JAWS 3-D "Exploding Shark" scene using action figures
In 1983, the third JAWS movie surfaced and marked a significant change in the in the franchise’s direction. Gone was Roy Scheider (who only appeared as Chief Brody in JAWS 2 as he waas under contract) as well as the story being located away from Amity Island. A giant thirty-five-foot shark becomes trapped in a SeaWorld theme park and it's up to the sons of police chief Brody to rescue everyone.
David Brown and Richard D. Zanuck, producers of the first two films, originally pitched this as a spoof, based on a suggestion by Matty Simmons and John Hughes. Titled "National Lampoon's Jaws 3, People 0", it was about a movie studio trying to make a second sequel to Jaws (1975). It opened with author Peter Benchley being eaten in his pool by a shark, and included a naked Bo Derek and shark-costumed aliens. Joe Dante was attached as director. Steven Spielberg rejected the idea and threatened to walk from his deal with Universal. When Zanuck and Brown learned of the rejection, they quit the studio.
The ending of JAWS 3-D is the stuff of legend. Foreshadowed (as in all four JAWS movies to date) during an arguement about Philip Fitzroyce using grenades, the Great White shark smashes through the window of the control centre, flooding it with water. With a half desiccated Fitzroyce (still holding a pinned grenade) in it’s mouth, Michael Brody manages to pull the pin using a randonly acquired bent piece of metal. The shark’s hilarious approach to the control centre aside, this is a pretty spectacular finale - and YouTuber JawsMan has recreated the idequence using action fugures with hilarious results!
