Jaws fan creates 'Peep Show' version of Steven Spielberg's shark classic
My love of Jaws and fear of sharks began in 1975 when I saw Jaws on the big screen.
I grew up in Southern California, riding my bike to the beach and swimming in the ocean. Then when I was 15, I saw Jaws and have been terrified of the ocean ever since. I have tried snorkeling in Hawaii but too fearful to enjoy. We used to take vacations to Florida and South Carolina and I could only muster the courage to wade in to my knees. Watching my kids further out, praying for their safety.
Yet, I watch Jaws every summer (and times in between)! I have Jaws viewings in my driveway with trivia and shark snacks and games! It is my favorite movie and I think it's perfect.
My Little Free Peep Show started when I removed the books from my Little Free Library to help curb the Coronavirus (remember that?). I started making Peep Shows based on books. I made them every week for a year. It became a BIG deal. Mentioned in National Geographic. The Washington Post. Local television. And the response from community has been overwhelmingly positive.
In 2020 I did one Peep Show based on Jaws for Shark Week. In 2021, I did a new scene for the movie each week in July for Shark Month and added photo props and stickers.
This year, I'm partnering my my neighborhood association to throw a shark festival (although we were refused permission to show Jaws by the licensing folks!).
