Jaws Fan Creates Ultimate Mash Up: Muppet Jaws

What's your name and where are you from?

Scotty Robson - Melbourne, Australia, born and raised.

Loving your images. What made you decide to extend the (as yet) fictional Jaws/Muppet universe?

Thanks I’m very grateful for all the likes and positive feedback. Its the creative challenge but mainly coz it’s fun to do things for others and give back a little.

Have you been surprised by the reaction?

One way or another it never fails to surprise me.  Mind you, I’ve got your retweet to thank for the success.

It even generated a sweet tweet from Jeffrey Kramer, Deputy Hendricks himself, which is very cool and thankfully he loves Gonzo.

Any other Muppet characters you'd cast as characters from Jaws?

Plenty of good suggestions in the replies to consider.

I made a slight change already and recast Miss Piggy as Ellen Brody - and the Chrissie Watkins role replaced with Janice.

How long have you been a fan of Jaws?

I was too young to see it at the cinema in ‘75 but like all kids in those summers knew the SHARK music, were aware of an increase in beach patrols & spotter planes and we all knew the shark siren.

In late ‘80(early ‘81ish) my next door neighbour got the first VCR in my street so ALL us kids would go there and marvel at the new amazing ‘tech’ (top loader with a corded remote) - anyway I can tell you the first films we watched on VHS; Grease, Halloween, The Amityville Horror, JAWS and JAWS2.

Have you got a favourite scene or moment?

Chief looking out the Orca window as the reflection of barrels go by, oil slicked water/machete shot, the fins disappearing below the water line entering the estuary, the shooting star, Mrs Taft’s ‘I don’t find that funny at all’, the ferry one shot, JW’s music during Brody & son table scene.

My fav SHARK moment is when BRUCE smashes through the window of the sinking Orca right before getting a mouth full of air tank - his thrashing, the skin, his eyes- if it wasn’t working before it sure made up for it with that scene - his most ‘real’ moment.

Lots to admire and also lots of invention thru necessity - does makes me wonder what JAWS would be like if the shark had worked?

Who is your favourite character and why?

Quint. I can do a bunch of voice impressions and Quint always makes my mates laugh!

How do you feel about the Jaws sequels?

Strongly. JAWS2 is the only sequel.

3 & 4 not even ‘so bad, its good’

(And 19 is a splendid albeit dated gag in BTTF3)

Have you a favourite piece of Jaws memrobelia?

From the early Spielberg films I’m more of a Close Encounters/Raiders of the Lost Ark guy so no not much JAWS stuff but perhaps The JAWS Log (Carl Gottlieb) I borrowed from the school library and never returned - one of my first intro’s to the concept of ‘BTS/making of’.

Muppet Jaws creator Scotty, channeling his inner Quint.

Are there many Jaws fans in Australia?

JAWS fans are everywhere.

Guessing since Ron & Valerie Taylor shot the real footage here, Aussie fans will always share a nostalgic pride/bond with the film.

And in that fashion (once we are past covid related restrictions) I really hope that Ian Shaw and co. will bring their show THE SHARK IS BROKEN down under.
