Dreyfuss Baking On A Hooper And A Prayer
Matt Hooper, Richard Dreyfuss' character in Jaws, may have been 'in' sharks since he was a youngster, but he has never been 'in' baking.
In fact - ahead of his stint on The Great Celebrity Bake Off For Stand Up To Cancer on Tuesday 17 March on Channel 4 - the Oscar winning actor has admitted that he can't bake. When asked how he had prepared for the show, he said all he had done is "flew over".
So why? Turns out he saw his friend and fellow actor John Lithgow - who starred opposite Roy Scheider in 2010 - having a ball on his appearance last year, and wanted some of that action.
Dreyfuss said: “When I saw a good friend, John Lithgow, grinning madly as he baked his way through his segment of the Celebrity Bake Off show I was awash with envy, I wanted to have that same goofy grin on my face."
So, is the star of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Stakeout worried about how things will go down in the Bake Off tent? No.
“No performance anxiety, no flop sweat, just fun and a great chance to come back to where we honeymooned, lived for four years, found grown up romance and now, a chance to learn to Bake? Are you kidding me? What’s wrong with that picture? Nothing, my Anglo cousins, not a blessed thing.”
Hopefully we'll see the odd Jaws line thrown into the mix as well, as on eif the co-presenters on the show is Noel Fielding, who just so happens to be a follower of The Daily Jaws.
Dreyfuss will be competing against Inbetweeners star James Buckley, TV presenter Scarlett Moffatt and former EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer in the famous tent to raise money for cancer research.
It will be screened in the UK on Tuesday 17 March at 8pm on Channel 4.
Richard Dreyfuss was quite active when he visited the UK last year, and The Daily Jaws got to be in his presence, twice. Once, in the small studio audience when he appeared on The One Show on BBC One the second time was at An Audience With Richard Dreyfuss in London.
He's not yet said yes to an interview with The Daily Jaws, but we keep on Hooping.
