LI BINGBING HAS BEEN CONFIRMED AS NOT APPEARING IN THE MEG 2
In Jaws terms, Li Bingbing was essentially the Matt Hooper to Jason Statham's Chief Brody in The Meg (2018), but just like Richard Dreyfuss didn't return in Jaws 2, Bingbing is not back in the water for the supersized shark sequel, The Meg 2: The Trench.
The film, which is currently filming just outside London, does see the return of Statham and in the director's chair this time round is Ben Wheatley, who shark film fans will be pleased to here is a huge fan of Jaws.
So, who do you get to help fill the casting hole? The answer for The Meg 2 was simple, you're not just gonna need a bigger actor, you're gonna need the biggest. The biggest grossing in Chinese box office history that is.
Step forward Wu Jing, which is set to help the film bite off a healthy box office return in China.
Like the first film it is a Chinese-American co-production and The Meg did so well in China that it almost took as much at the box office, over $152 million, as it took to produce, $178 million.
Are you looking forward to fresh faces and the new adventures of the Megalodon?
