THE JAWS SEQUEL DIRECTED BY THE SON OF STEVEN SPIELBERG
Whaaat? There were only ever three sequels to the original Jaws, which was directed by Steven Spielberg, right?
Correct, the Jaws legacy continued in Jaws 2 (1978), Jaws 3D (1983) and Jaws the Revenge (1987). And none of those were helmed by the son of the director of Jaws.
But there was a further sequel we never saw which was directed by the son of Spielberg.
That film was 'released' in 2015, and was called Jaws 19. There is no actual film, just a cinema marquee and a kick-ass marketing campaign for it which featured in Back To The Future Part 2 (1989), part of which takes part in 2015, which was 26 years in the future at the time of release. Yikes!
The sequel to Back To The Future was released just two years after the release of Jaws The Revenge and clearly pokes fun at that film, riffing on its tagline of this time its personal, with this time it's really personal. Both films were released by the same studio, Universal.
The eagle-eyed will also spot that Jaws 19 was also directed by Max Spielberg, who was born on June 13, 1985, just three weeks before the release of Back To The Future in that same year. And perilously close to 10 years to the day of release of Jaws across the US, which swam into theaters on June 20, 1975.
The young Spielberg, whose mum is Amy Irving, would have been aged 4 at the time of the release of the time-travelling sequel and would have been 30 if he had directed the Jaws follow up. Which he didn't.
Steven Spielberg was executive producer on the Back To The Future series and the scene which features Jaws 19 was shot on the Universal backlot, which is where Spielberg would often spend downtime on the actual Orca that was used on Jaws.
Until it was scrapped that is.
