It’s The Room meets JAWS as we say oh hi, Big Shark trailer
For many, Tommy Wiseau’s The Room reached new depths of cinema, but now his next project has finally reached the surface, Big Shark.
If it is The Room meets JAWS, then perhaps he should have just called it JAWS the Room-venge? But can it really be any worse than Shark Attack 3: Megalodon starring John Barrowman or The Last Shark?
Big Shark follows three firefighters who attempt to save a flooded New Orleans from a…you guessed it. From the trailer though you’d think Big Shark was Rocky meets JAWS as absurdly there is more action shown in the ring than with any shark, although we do get a blink and you’ll miss it shot of a shark crashing down into a boxing ring. Yes, you read that right.
There is one money shot of a huge shark in a flooded street that is about to chomp down on a couple of fleeing victims, with the rest of the trailer having the feeling as if it was edited by a 12-year-old trying out all the different titling effects.
It grabs the attention with its noise but you’ve practically forgotten it by the time it has come to an end. File under the same level of sharksploitation films as the likes of Sharknado or House Shark.
If you enjoy this kind of that’s bad it is good shark film, that’s great, but for me they are firmly at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to shark cinema and I don’t find them funny, don’t find them funny at all.
Not that I’m opposed to leave your brain at the door shark action, I love Deep Blue Sea and Shark Bait and have always been a champion of JAWS 3D and JAWS the Revenge. To paraphrase Quint, Big Shark, it’s not gonna be pleasant. I can feel it in my waters.
Any shark film keeps the interest in sharks and Jaws alive for a potential new audience; we don’t just want any shark film though. We want good ones.
The film makes its US debut on April 2 – some might argue it should have kicked off a day earlier – with Variety reporting that Big Shark will be embarking on an eight month city tour.
What is the worst shark film you have ever seen?
