TWITTER COMPARES OPENING OF BBC THRILLER 'VIGIL' TO JAWS

With a fishing boat being dragged backwards through the water in the opening minutes of new BBC thriller, Vigil, you can see why some viewers jumped onto Twitter to compare it to a scene from Jaws.

Let's be clear, Vigil - a murder thriller set onboard a nuclear submarine - has nothing to do with sharks, and it wasn't Jack the Ripper either.

The opening of the thriller, from the same team that brought us the sublime Line Of Duty, created echoes of the the scene in Jaws where the Orca is being dragged backwards by the shark and water is frothing over the stern and slowly sinking the boat, all whilst Quint, Hooper and Brody are getting an absolute soaking.

@SelinaD1980 posted: I was half expecting a shark to come jumping out at the trawler boat like Jaws, but it looks good this new drama Vigil

@gracemariex added: I watched Jaws yesterday so #Vigil already has ten times the suspense I was ready for

Whilst The Daily Jaws follower, @CQEdinburgh, said: Strong ‘Jaws’ energy here, I ain’t mad at it #vigil

The show, starring Suranne Jones and Martin Compston, transports viewers aboard HMS Vigil, a fictional Royal Navy submarine, and is already being talked about as one of the most thrilling TV shows of the year. It is currently airing on BBC One in the UK.
