BRUCE... THE TRUE KING SHARK

Nearing 50, he may be a bit long in the teeth, but Bruce (as named after Steven Spielberg's lawyer) is still King of the cinematic sharks.

There may be bigger sharks (hello Meg), more er headed (take a bow two, three, four and five headed shark attack sharks). And now, there's another shark trying to muscle in on the action, and this time he's voiced by Sylvester Stallone in The Suicide Squad. Enter stage left, King Shark.

Even though he is - quite literally - a fish out of water, has arms and legs and talks. He's still getting some bad press on his penchant for human flesh, with this article in BBC Science Focus Magazine saying that King Shark "feeds into a wider image of sharks as dangerous dead-eyed man-eating monsters."

Bruce the 25 foot long, 12 ton practical effect terrified and won over film fans in equal measure.

We welcome all sharks to our screens, and hopefully King Shark can tempt some in to the water for some Jaws action and discovering more about sharks and conservation.

And although we haven't had a new Jaws film since 1987's Jaws the Revenge, Jaws is a name which still turns heads and makes headlines. Just look at his much anticipated return to Hollywood, pride of place in the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, which opens on September 30th.
