HOT JAWS: THE SPICY SHARK IS FANTASTIC TASTING AND GOOD NEWS FOR SHARKS

Gabe DiSaverio has been ‘in spicy food’ about as long as he has been ‘in sharks’, so in 2018 he merged his two loves to create The Spicy Shark.

Based in Portsmouth New Hampshire, The Spicy Shark hasn’t stopped swimming since their launch in February 2019.

They make 7 craft Hot Sauces, a Wing Sauce, a Smoked Maple Sriracha, a Hot Honey, and 2 Hot Maple Syrups. Their products are all-natural, gluten-free, and dairy-free.

Their sauces have a wide range of flavor, and are named after an array of sharks, from the Nurse Shark Jalapeno Hot Sauce to even the Megalodon Carolina Reaper Hot Sauce.

The Spicy Shark has a 5-Fin heat scale, ranging from a 1 (mild) to a 5 (wicked hot), and then there is the 6 Fin series…if you dare!

As Quint would say, “it’s pretty good stuff.”

Although, to quote Matt Hooper, “I wouldn’t drink that if I was you.”

The hottest, the Hammah Gatah, won a 1st place prize at the Hot Sauce Scovie Awards, and that’s only 1 of their 11 Scovies - not a bad record for this, or any, vicinity.

The Spicy Shark’s mission is to make the best tasting and unique spicy products, using only the finest ingredients, and to help preserve and improve the lives of sharks in our oceans.

This is something Gabe was inspired to do after meeting Wendy Benchley, the wife of Jaws author Peter Benchley, at JawsFest on Amity Island (aka: Martha’s Vineyard) in 2012.

He joined the organization Shark Savers, took up scuba diving, and eventually started free diving with sharks. The Spicy Shark currently works with, and donates to, a wide variety of non-profits that focus on shark conservation.

For Gabe, Jaws continues to be intertwined into his life in many ways. He is never too fah from his cah, and with good reason, it’s a replica of Chief Brody’s 1975 Chevy Blazer – for the Amity Police decals, he let Polly do the printing.

The car’s name is Marty and can often be seen driving along the Northern New England seacoast. He even gave his daughter the middle name Ellen, named after Chief Brody’s wife.

With such a range of sauces, it’s less a matter of whether you are going to buy a The Spicy Shark sauce, but more which ones.

Whichever sauce you choose, you’ll be sure to swallow it whole.

You’re not gonna need a bigger hot sauce.
