When The Shark Is Broken’s Ian Shaw introduced Jaws WeMake

You can catch The Shark Is Broken until November 6th, 2022 at the Royal Alexandra Theatre, Totonto, Canada.

With The Shark Is Broken performing to sell out crowds at The Ambassadors Theatre it is like Jawsmania all over again.

Ian Shaw simply stuns as his dad, Robert Shaw, in the show he both performs in, and has co-written with Joseph Nixon. Shaw stars on stage with Liam Murray Scott (Richard Dreyfuss) and Demetri Goritsas (Roy Scheider), aboard an impressive cutaway recreation of the Orca.

The funny and heartfelt play charts the ups and downs of the behind the scenes goings on of Steven Spielberg's Jaws, which sees the iconic acting threesome on filmic lockdown as they wait for the tide, and of course the shark not to be broken, during 1974 on Martha's Vineyard.

During the 2020 Covid lockdown, Ian Shaw was helping introduce a very different Jaws-related project, an ambitious fan-made remake of Jaws under lockdown conditions in the homes and backyards (on Amity you say yahd) of Jaws fans from across the globe, including the UK, US and India.

Dean Newman, head of content for The Daily Jaws, said: "Far and away the most popular character for people to perform as was Quint, with the Indianapolis speech being the scene that we had the most people submit for.

"I mean, who wouldn't want to take a stab at that iconic scene. It's a Jaws fan's dream, and it was great to give people something to get involved in and look forward to in a year of such despair and difficulties."

In an effort to complete the hair-brained remake scheme, Dean even ended up donning sideburns and green cap himself in several scenes as the captain of the Orca.

So, when The Daily Jaws managed to snag Ian Shaw for a surprise introduction it was the icing on the shark-shaped cake.

Ross Williams - who appeared in several scenes as Matt Hooper - is founder and director of The Daily Jaws, the world's number one Jaws site.

He said: "We couldn't have been more thrilled to have got the support of Ian, his intro was heartfelt and wonderful, complete with a clapperboard and can of Narragansett. He was 100% on point and helped give us that link to the original, which starred his dad.

"And the reaction from Jaws fans was amazing as well, it was a stunning way to kick-off the Jaws WeMake, which premiered on June 20th, 2020, 45 years to the day since Jaws opened in US cinemas."

The buzz of the Jaws WeMake saw it feature in The Guardian, Den of Geek and even The Martha's Vineyard Times. And, such has been the continued momentum that Dean and Ross also appeared on Shark Week in the US, talking about it over a year later.

So, if you love Jaws and loved The Shark Is Broken, grab a pretzel and a pint of red wine and settle down with The Jaws WeMake.

Take it away, Ian...
