The Shark Is Broken names The Daily Jaws as official media partner

Hook us up another barrel, as we are coming around again! That’s right, The Daily Jaws is helping show JAWS the Broadway to go home.

It has been announced as an official media partner for the hit show The Shark Is Broken, as it crosses the Atlantic, after wowing audiences in London’s West End.

The world's number one JAWS fan site, The Daily Jaws, has been named as a media partner for the Broadway debut of The Shark Is Broken, the play about the behind-the-scenes goings on during the making of Steven Spielberg’s JAWS when it was being filmed on Martha’s Vineyard in 1974.

The show – co-written by and starring Ian Shaw, the son of Quint actor Robert Shaw, alongside Joseph Nixon on writing duties – sets sail for its run at John Golden Theatre with its first preview from July 25, opening on August 10 and running through to November 19.

It stars the aforementioned Ian Shaw, as an uncanny double of his dad Robert Shaw dressed as Quint, Alex Brightman as Richard Dreyfuss – who played Matt Hooper - and Colin Donnell as Roy Scheider – who played Chief Brody. Directing the project, which all takes place on in impressive cutaway set of the Orca, is Guy Masterson.

We met these guys on Day One of our voyage and they have been shipmates since, so we are thrilled that they are aboard again bringing our wild, whacky and wonderful JAWS family and theatre fans around the world with us for the show’s greatest adventure yet.

It's happened before, as The Daily Jaws site had the same duties during its smash hit West End run. In fact, The Daily Jaws, has been flying the flag for the show since well before it thrilled audiences at The Edinburgh Fringe.

Ross Williams, the Director and Founder of The Daily Jaws, and Dean Newman – its Head of Content - were both lucky enough to catch the preview show in Brighton ahead of it going to Edinburgh.

Ian Shaw even recorded a surprise intro for the Jaws WeMake, a fan-made remake of JAWS created during lockdown, featuring over 100 Jaws fans from around the world.

Ross Williams, Director of The Daily Jaws, said: “It’s been fantastic to chart the success of this amazing show since it first set sail, and we’ve been really proud to have raised it profile and played a small but important part in helping make it a success that has now seen it blossom to Broadway.

“It was only a matter of time before this brilliantly funny and moving story of the making of JAWS would head to Broadway in New York, and we are thrilled to be there to be the (black)eyes and ears for every JAWS fan around the world.”

Dean Newman, Head of Content, added: “This show is the biggest thing to happen to JAWS since the summer of 1975, so it is a huge privilege to be a continued part of the legacy of JAWS, and JAWS history in the making.

“Seeing it on stage really is like being the fourth crew member of the Orca, and the world’s number one JAWS site will be there to capture the head, the tail, the whole damn thing. To paraphrase Mayor Vaughn, this is gonna be the best summer Broadway’s ever had.”
