Meg 2 Set To Start Shooting In January
Jason Statham, star of the original monster-fish hit The Meg, has confirmed that The Meg 2 will start shooting in January 2022.
In the directors chair this time round is British director, Ben Wheatley, and Statham is excited about going back in the water.
He told Collider: "We've been waiting around for the right scripts to come in and the right director to turn up, and we've got all those things and they're all stacked up now."
The original film was a huge hit at the global box office, making over $530 million, making it the third highest grossing shark thriller of all time behind both Jaws and Jaws 2.
What we can expect this time round is unclear, so we'll have to wait and see if it is based on Steve Alten's follow up book, The Trench, or whether we'll see the return of Pippin (not to be confused with Pipit in Jaws) or indeed whether Statham will be punching any giant shark snouts again.

The first film, directed by National Treasure helmer Jon Turteltaub, certainly had its detractors, whether that be fans of the original book or people who were comparing it to Jaws, but enjoyed it as a monster movie. And there, just like the recent Kong and Godzilla reboots, it delivered in those moments. Check out our review of the original film: Mega Low Down: The Meg Review
And, if this sequel is another monster hit, it can only be a positive thing for the future of shark cinema.
Who knows, perhaps one day we may even see Meg Vs Kong Vs Godzilla. Of course unlike Kong and Godzilla, Megalodon was a very real monster. Here's some huge facts about the Jurassic shark: The Meg Files: Jurassic Shark Facts
