Never Before Seen Jaws Photos Head To Auction

A book of 110 photos from behind the scenes of Jaws are up for auction, and they could prove to be the perfect Christmas present for that difficult to buy for Jaws fan.

If you've got an estimated £3,700 to spare that is. The amazing images are a making of record for the Steven Spielberg thriller, which was released 45 years ago this year. The pictorial history of one of the greatest films of all time were taken by script supervisor Charlsie Bryant.

Charlsie Bryant’s “JAWS” production photo album is expected to fetch thousands at auction

The breath-taking pics are that holy grail, never before scene photos and feature everything from Bruce the shark, Orca, Spielberg and candid shots of the three main stars, Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss, as well as numerous cast and crew on the water or on dry land in Marthas Vineyard, which doubled as Amity Island.

It’s amazing to see these images come to light during the 45th anniversary year of the film’s release, Jaws never fails to keep surprising us.

Hooper wasn’t the only one who got to drive the boat

Bryant was said to be Spielberg's favourite script supervisor and she go onto work with him on Close Encounters of the Third Kind. She was due to follow that up with 1941, but sadly died before production could begin. That film - which also features Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton in supporting roles, along with a cameo by Susan Backlinie - was dedicated to her memory.

Cast and crew were frequently seen throughout Martha’s Vineyard during the filming of Jaws

It was the final film credit to a career that included working for Alfred Hitchcock on Rope, From Here To Eternity and was also on script supervisor duties on two Robert Shaw films, The Sting and Black Sunday.

Caren Roberts, from Bonhams, the auction house selling this Jaws treasure trove, said: "The photos have never been seen or published before.

"I think they would appeal to a whole range of buyers from Jaws fans to film history fans...and Spielberg fans."

Something that Ross Williams, creator of The Daily Jaws - the world's number one Jaws site - couldn't agree more with. He said: "It's amazing to see these images come to light during the 45th anniversary year of the film's release, Jaws never fails to keep surprising us.”

"The troubled making of the film is as legendary and famous as the finished film itself, so it is great to be able to get this unique never before seen view of behind the scenes with these photos. It's almost like transporting us to Marthas Vineyard in 1974."

The photos are set to go under the hammer on 11 December. They aren't the first set of Jaws behind the scenes photos to head to auction in recent years, an album of images by none other than Bad Hat Harry Meadows himself were sold in 2017: https://thedailyjaws.com/blog/2017/3/15/bad-hat-harrys-scrapbook-up-for-auction
