Not a bad record for this Oscar-nominated vicinity for Steven Spielberg
The number 13 may be unlucky for some, but not for JAWS (1975) director Steven Spielberg, who has produced a record 13 films that have been nominated for Best Picture.
That record for an individual producer was reached thanks to Maestro’s Best Picture nomination, producing the film about composer Leonard Bernstein alongside its co-writer, director and star Bradley Cooper, Fred Berner, Amy Durning and Kristie Macosko Krieger.
Making up the impressive list of other Best Picture nominations where Spielberg served as producer are E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), The Color Purple (1985), Schindler's List (1993), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Munich (2005), Letters from Iwo Jima (2006), War Horse (2011), Lincoln (2012), Bridge of Spies (2015), The Post (2017), West Side Story (2021), and The Fabelmans (2022).
Schindler's List is Spielberg's only Best Picture winner, with him also taking home Oscars for directing Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.
Maestro has seven Oscar nomination in total, its other Oscar nods are for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Cinematography Best Make-up and Hairstyling, Best Sound and Best Original Screenplay. Winners will be announced on Sunday, March 10.
