JAWS quiz is three barrels full of fun, raising money for Deputy's good cause

"Don't wait for me!" and "you got any better suggestions?"were the main mantras during The Daily Jaws' first online global online quiz, The Orca Challenge.

Thirty seconds per question. That's all you got. It sounded generous. It wasn't, especially as the time ticked down - sounding not unlike the click, click, click of Quint's reel for added tension.

At one point someone was going to radio in for help when Ross, quiz host and founder of The Daily Jaws - the world's number one JAWS fansite - smashed it up with a baseball bat. Okay, so that last bit didn't happen, but he and Ed - quizmaster - made sure the evening was certifiably fun.

The Daily Jaws' first Orca Challenge brought together fans from across the US, Canada and - the pond (not for the old ladies) in the UK for a global online JAWS quiz that was as frantic as it was fin-tastic.

Teams battled through timed multiple-choice questions and picture rounds (seaweed? Mud on the lens?) , covering everything from memorable quotes and behind-the-scenes trivia to blink and you'll miss them details. Quint may never put on a life jacket again, but these quizzers will never forget what colour jacket Chrissie was wearing (blue) and how many shots Brody had on the shark (six), again.

The competition attracted an incredible mix of teams, each with a name as memorable as the film itself. Piper's (sic) Revenge, Quint's Mates, In Like Quint, Bruce's British Bulldogs, The Bigger Boats, Shark Attack Pack, Professional Fish Mover, Matt Hooper's Slutty Little Beanie, Gonna Need A Bigger Team, Kitner's (sic) Surf Shop and, er, The Meg were just some of the crews hoping to prove they knew JAWS better than anyone else.

The chat was just as entertaining as the quiz itself. Teams encouraged one another throughout the evening, turning a competitive event into a real community gathering, The Daily Jaws, as you know, means friendship.

The Orraloon summed up the mood perfectly, saying "Well done to all teams and thanks Ed and Ross for a fantastic quiz, looking forward to the next one!"

One message, though, stopped everyone in their tracks. The Blacktips shared: "My daughter, 12 years old, battling cancer, is the one who wanted to do this challenge. It's her favorite movie! Thank you for doing this!"

It was a reminder that JAWS continues to bring people together in remarkable ways, wherever they are in the world.

Amity Amateur echoed what many players were thinking at the finish: "This has been a blast. Thank you for arranging. I would definitely do this again!"

By the final round, brains were fried more than Brucette in JAWS 2, eyes more bulging than Ben Gardner's remaining one and we could have all done with a few scoops of coffee ice-cream to boost our blood sugars.

And if that wasn't enough, out of the 52 teams that took part, those placing in the top ten each won a prize, with ‘In Like Quint’ taking the top spot.

And with over $3,000 worth of prizes - so that's what happened to the Mrs Kintner reward money - there were plenty of great JAWS inspired items up for grabs, from keyrings to tees and prints to a model Orca. Alas, there were no portable showers or monkey cages.

Like Brody and Hooper after surviving their ordeal aboard the Orca, nobody quite knew what day it was anymore.

Post the quiz there was also a fantastic cameo from Deputy Hendricks himself, Jeffrey Kramer, who appeared in a pre-recorded video thanking everyone who took part. He said it was "especially meaningful" as part of the proceeds from the event were going to the Tourettes Association of America charity. It's a cause close to the JAWS and JAWS 2 actor's heart as both he and two of his three sons has the condition.

Clearly touched by the gesture, Jeffrey said: "Every little bit helps...and I am truly, truly grateful and I thank you from the bottom of my heart "

Of the event, Ross Williams, founder of The Daily Jaws, said: "The inaugural Orca Challenge proved that JAWS fandom knows no borders. Whether teams finished top of the food chain or simply survived the countdown clock, everyone came away with the same feeling: they couldn't wait to do it all over again and people were having a wonderful time."
