JAWS inspired play 'The Shark is Broken' returning to stage in 2025

George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, New Jersey has revealed their complete 2024–2025 season, which includes five productions performing between next fall and spring 2025. And great news… JAWS inspired play ‘The Shark Is Broken’ will be making a return to the stage!

"The Shark is Broken" by Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon, following successful runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, London's West End, and Broadway. This three-actor production delves into the behind-the-scenes drama of director Robert Shaw and actors Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss as they await filming of the legendary Hollywood blockbuster "Jaws." However, their anticipation is met with delays due to a malfunctioning shark animatronic. Directed by David Saint, the New Jersey company brings this captivating tale to life from April 29 to May 18, 2025.

The season will kick off with Heidi Schreck's "What the Constitution Means to Me," presented in a fresh staging directed by Laiona Michelle, running from October 1 to October 20. This acclaimed work, exploring the U.S. Constitution and women's rights, was a 2019 Pulitzer Finalist and garnered two Tony Awards, including Best Play, during its 2019 Broadway run.

Following that, audiences can enjoy Cary Gitter's "Gene & Gilda," directed by Joe Brancato, running from December 3 to December 22. This new comedy sheds light on the lives of real-life married comedians Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner.

In the new year, Roberto Montano's "Small" will take the stage from January 21 to February 9, 2025, under the direction of Jessi D. Hill. This work recounts Montano's journey as a diminutive actor and dancer, from facing bullying in school to gracing Broadway stages in productions like "Cats" and "On the Town."

Following "Small," Rajiv Joseph's "King James" will be showcased from March 18 to April 6. This play, which enjoyed a successful Off-Broadway run the previous year, revolves around two sports enthusiasts bonding over their admiration for NBA superstar LeBron James.
