JAWS fans in a feeding frenzy about The Shark Is Broken's Broadway debut
A cloud in the shape of a killer shark show is almost upon Broadway, with The Shark Is Broken set to surface for previews from Tuesday 25 July.
It's about the well documented behind the scenes issues of the making of the original summer blockbuster, JAWS (1975).
There's no Steven Spielberg, no beaches to close and no shark, just three men on a boat and an ever expanding filming time.
But they aren't just on any boat, they are on board the Orca, and these men are three actors who are forever associated with the film; Robert Shaw (Quint), Roy Scheider (Chief Brody) and Richard Dreyfuss (Matt Hooper).
This isn't JAWS the play, so it isn't those iconic JAWS characters on stage squabbling, it's those actors dressed as those characters - but don't worry there is still chum buckets of squabbling.
Playing the trio are the actual son of Robert Shaw, Ian Shaw (in what is a truly uncanny and mesmerising performance. You will believe the ghost of Robert Shaw is stood before you), with Alex Brightman as Richard Dreyfuss and Colin Donnell as Roy Scheider.
You don't have to be a huge fan of JAWS to enjoy it (but who isn't, right?) and fans of the shark classic, cinema and the actors being brought to life on stage already know it is going to be 'pretty good stuff'.
On The Daily Jaws Facebook page, Steve Tracy, said: Never in my life have I had any desire to go to New York. Ever. Until now….
Tracie Porter Silva said: We got tickets! So excited!!!!
Those who had seen the Olivier-nominated play in London’s West End also posted about their experience of seeing the play. One of them was Andy Clockwise, who said: I saw this in London and was completely immersed in it. It feels like you’re on the set of Jaws, seated behind the cameras. I really enjoyed it.
And many people posting have been simply stunned by the likeness of father and son, especially when they are both dressed like Quint.
Amelia Padgett said: I was just about to say “man! That guy is a dead ringer for Robert Shaw!” Then I actually read the post…I see now lol.
Debbie Williams, also on Facebook, said: Good grief! He’s like his dad. Sounds like an amazing show.
Answering Debbie’s comment, Jerry Muldoon added: I was just about to say the same! Holy genetics!
Become part of JAWS history in the making, by being part of the first crew to see The Shark Is Broken and its cast onboard the Orca as part of its maiden voyage on Broadway. Tickets, you’re gonna need a bigger basket for them right here.
