Jaws Boris Johnson tweet goes viral with over one million views
Boris Johnson has long compared himself to the mayor from Jaws, so it was obvious to post a Mayor Vaughn related meme outside 10 Downing Street as his role as Prime Minister faltered.
That particular tweet ended up being featured on The Guardian website billed as part of “a roundup of some of the best satire as the prime minister fights for survival.”
It also surfaced in The Daily Mail Online which had The Daily Jaws tweet as the lead image and said: “Another mentioned horror film Jaws by depicting the film's upbeat mayor of Amity Island outside Downing Street.
“Referencing the moment where the mayor promised the beaches were safe before the killer shark struck again, the tweet read: 'The Cabinet is open and everyone is having a wonderful time'.”
It also gained traction in Indy100, although sadly not Field & Stream, bit still not a bad record for this vicinity.
Riffing on Mayor Vaughn’s “the beaches are open, and everyone is having a wonderful time” soundbite to media, it instead said that “The Cabinet is open, and everyone is having a wonderful time.”
That sentiment seemed to rather capture the mood of the nation and it was catapulted across social media, being liked over 17,000 times, shared over 3,400 times and viewed over a million times.

Claire Osborn #LC (@She_raaah) went as far to say: Everyone give up now. This is unbeatable.
Whilst Edger Hogan (@HoganEdgerGolf) even proclaimed: One of funniest tweets I have ever seen.
Jaws and politics have long gone city hand in city hand since the Steven Spielberg film was released in the summer of 1975, so that it and Mayor Vaughn continue to resonate to this day should be no surprise.
It’s not been only dalliance with politics by The Daily Jaws, with it sticking up for Mayor Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) and saying that him being compared to Boris Johnson was unfair, on the Amity Island mayor.
Jaws – and the unseen threat of the shark – also took on a whole new meaning with the advent of Covid.
Dean Newman, head of content for the world’s number one Jaws fan site, said: “Jaws has always been much more than a shark movie, or a Steven Spielberg film; it is a part of pop culture and like Star Wars or King Kong references, it never dates. It is always evolving and can always be read as about now and is always relevant. And that is part and parcel of its enduring quality and lasting legacy.”
And let’s face it, willingly comparing yourself to the mayor from Jaws was ultimately never going to end well. And it is a comparison Boris is going to have to stop making, as Vaughn got elected for a second term
