JAWS 3-D star P.H. Moriarty passes away aged 86

Paul Hugh "P.H." Moriarty, born on September 23, 1938, in Deptford, London, passed away on February 3, 2025, at the age of 86. Before embarking on his acting career, Moriarty worked as a boxer and a docker at the Surrey Commercial Docks. His entry into acting came unexpectedly when a film crew, shooting a scene on the English docks, discovered him and invited him to participate.

Moriarty adopted the stage name "P.H. Moriarty" to distinguish himself from another actor named Paul Moriarty. He became renowned for portraying tough characters and gangsters, leaving a significant mark on British cinema. Notably, he played 'Razors' in John Mackenzie's "The Long Good Friday" (1980) and 'Hatchet' Harry Lonsdale in Guy Ritchie's "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" (1998).

His diverse filmography also includes roles in "Outland" (1981), "Jaws 3-D" (1983), "Patriot Games" (1992), and "Chaplin" (1992). On television, Moriarty portrayed Gurney Halleck in the Sci-Fi Channel's miniseries adaptations of "Frank Herbert's Dune" (2000) and its sequel, "Frank Herbert's Children of Dune" (2003).

P.H. Moriarty's journey from the docks of London to the silver screen is a testament to his talent and adaptability. His compelling performances and distinctive presence have left an enduring legacy in the world of film and television.
