JAWS 2 is coming to 4K for its 45th anniversary

Just when you thought it was safe to get your DVD or Bluray copy of JAWS 2 out, it is headed for a 4K release.

That's according to The DiscFather on Twitter (@TheDiscFather) who made the announcement, with a tentative release date of June, which if correct would see it make its ultra high def debut 45 years since it first filled US cinema screens with screams.

It might not be regarded by many as an effective a film as its 1975 Steven Spielberg directed predecessor, but there is still plenty of jolts, jumps and shark action.

There have been no announcements on extras, whether that be existing or a new set, or on the cover. It has been mooted that there will also be a steelbook edition as well.

The JAWS 4K cover caused quite the controversary amongst many JAWS fans when its image was first announced, not to mention the misprinting in the brochure that came with it - clearly they didn't use Polly for the printing. Universal, to their credit, did sort out replacements.

The safe money is probably on the main poster design, which sees the great white shark rising up against behind the unsuspecting water-skier, echoing one of the key stand out moments from the Jeannot Szwarc directed film.

As well as returning to Amity Island for a second bite at the box office, the shark sequel saw the return of Roy Scheider as Chief Brody, alongside Lorraine Gary (Ellen Brody) and Murray Hamilton (Mayor Vaughn) all who got top billing.

We also saw the welcome return of Jeffrey Kramer as Deputy Hendricks, not to mention some familiar locals in the shape if Mrs Taft and Harry, minus his bad hat and with his clothes on.

And we also must make special mention of the rousing and rich score by a returning John Williams.

Whether it is new extras or not will you be venturing into the water and buying JAWS 2 when it surfaces on 4K?

Also, if we are getting JAWS 2, can JAWS 3D - 40 this year - and JAWS the Revenge be swimming that far behind?
