Great White Warning For 4th of July

Last year we were asking if Cape Cod was becoming the real life Amity Island. This year they are issuing a shark warning ahead of the fourth of July weekend.

It's a reminder to would be bathers about the increase in shark activity in the area, as  there has been for the last several years. Great White sharks attracted by the ballooning seal population, which has already reportedly had several shark attacks the last few days.

The Guardian newspaper reported that at a news conference, Leslie Reynolds, the chief ranger with Cape Cod National Seashore, warned Great Whites were coming close enough to shore to be a concern for swimmers.

It may be a concern for swimmers,  but for fans of sharks it's like ringing the dinner bell for christ sakes.

The concern is so great that officials have recommended that swimmers stay in waist-deep water where possible and avoid areas where sharks have been spotted, hopefully showing that people and sharks can cautiously share the same water.

Once again there will be an increase in pilots reporting shark sightings as they pass over the coastline and people are being asked to download the Sharktivity app to alert them of when a shark pings in the water.

There were two attacks in 2018, one which proved fatal, so at this time when tourism and the local economy is in a fragile state, the stakes couldn't be higher. Of course the question on everyone's lips is, are they going to close the beaches?
