Broadway big hitter acquires rights to JAWS inspired play 'THE SHARK IS BROKEN'

Broadway Licensing Global has secured the rights to Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon's play, The Shark is Broken. Premiering to acclaim at the Edinburgh Festival in 2019, this 95-minute, three-person production has enjoyed successful runs on both London's West End and Broadway.

Ted Chapin, Interim Chief Executive Officer of BLG, describes the play as a blend of humor and poignancy, offering insights into the creation of a cinematic classic. Notably, Ian Shaw, co-author and original cast member, brings a unique authenticity to the narrative as the son of Robert Shaw, who starred in the iconic film Jaws.

Jaws, produced with a modest $12 million budget and initially screened on 409 screens, swiftly became a global sensation, grossing over $483 million worldwide. Despite its shark-centric theme, The Shark is Broken offers alternative late-summer entertainment, as hailed by The Wall Street Journal.

In just seven years, BLG has transformed from a startup with 900 titles to a powerhouse boasting over 8,000 titles. This remarkable growth of 789% solidifies BLG's position as the premier source for live stage plays and musicals worldwide.

Represented by the esteemed BLG imprint, Dramatists Play Service, The Shark is Broken is now available for professional licensing.
