'Jaws Returns' Shark Film Looks Jawful

Jawsful, that's short for just awful. Ugh. Just ugh. The Daily Jaws is a big supporter of shark films in all their forms, whether it be part of the Jaws series or new shark thriller. But not this hot mess.

Jaws Returns. Er, no it doesn't. We know that The Daily Jaws has built up a trusted following, so we felt it was our duty to tell you that this is nothing to do with Jaws.

We know shark film fans have polarising views on the likes of Jaws 3D, Jaws the Revenge and even films like Deep Blue Sea, The Shallows and the Sharknado series. Whether we like them or not, we support them and shark cinema.

But that support disappears quicker than you can say Pipit when said film (and let's be frank, that is being kind) is called Jaws Returns and is nothing to do with the Jaws franchise. Nothing. So, we feel it is our duty to warn you about such tosh.

That title is just attempting to hoodwink loyal Jaws fans. It's being billed as a Jaws tribute (coughs), but let's be honest, we've seen better tribute acts down the local pub.

And let's be clear, we aren't adverse to films cashing in on or taking their cue from Jaws, hello Piranha and Lake Placid. But Jaws Returns is deficating on the Jaws name and taking us all for mugs.

This is essentially a series of nice looking drone and underwater shots interspersed with people saying lines, we can't even call it acting. Even the Jaws WeMake (full length feature below) - which was filmed under lockdown conditions - had better production values.

Jaws Returns (we have to say again, it isn't, and is nothing to do with the original series), but the story follows the head of maritime police, teaming up with a young apprentice and shark hunter aiming to stop a killer shark before it closes the beaches.

Seeing as these are the same people behind the equally risible looking The Thing Returns I think we can see their particular business model. Both the originals were released by Universal, so we should imagine their legal teams would find the titles of interest.

It's like Cruel Jaws all over again, although this time the cruel element would appear to be on anyone actually watching it. Avoid.

There are however a whole host of other shark films set to surface in 2021, you can check them out here: Shark Movies Coming In 2021

And talking of the return of Jaws, rumours of a a Jaws remake have failed to sink to the bottom of the ocean, so The Daily Jaws decided to take the shark by the pectoral fins and discuss whether and how a Jaws remake could work: JAWS: IS A REMAKE POSSIBLE?
