Jaws Screenwriter Calls Academy Museum Bruce Model A Genuine Icon
As a screenwriter, Carl Gottlieb is naturally good at being economic with his words. He's also well versed in all things Jaws, having been co-screenwriter on the Steven Spielberg classic and screenwriting duties on Jaws 2 and Jaws 3D.
He also has one of the greatest making of film books ever written, The Jaws Log.
The installation of the last remaining original Bruce model from Jaws in the yet to be opened Museum of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has quite rightly got film and Jaws fans more excited than a panicked beach on July 4th.
And Carl Gottlieb is no less thrilled by the news. Speaking to The Daily Jaws, Carl said: “It's fitting that an iconic film has a genuine icon representing it in an iconic setting. It all fits together.”

It certainly does Carl, and he's not the only Jaws legend to weigh in on this important piece of cinematic history. Joe Alves, Jaws production designer, associate producer and production designer on Jaws 2 and director of Jaws 3D told us: “I’ve been involved with the Junk Yard shark for a number of years. The Museum representative contacted me regarding having it restored and knowing Greg Nicotero for many years, I thought him and his group would be the perfect people to restore it. I’m glad the restored shark has found it’s home at the Museum of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for everyone to enjoy.”
Not bad for a large predator that supposedly injured some bathers 45 years ago.
