My name is Mark Atkinson and I’m a filmmaker. Like many of you, I too believe that JAWS is one of the best, if not THE best, movies of all time! Having grown up in New England (Rhode Island), JAWS really was a staple of my childhood, especially in the summers. However, it wasn’t until I was studying film in college that I realized (and I think you would all agree) that JAWS really is a perfect movie. It was and IS a perfect story, with the perfect director and the perfect cast, especially my favorite Robert Shaw as Captain Quint.
At college parties I would quote Quint and do impressions of him amongst my friends and family and then years later it carried over to my professional acting career. A few years ago I came up with the idea of using my impression of Quint and inserting him into a “fish outta wata” story set around Christmas. And what better way to juxtapose the legendary, salty sea captain, then having him interact with his two cute, little sweet nieces. So with the help of some filmmaker friends and we made a little fan film right around the holidays to be released online on Christmas Eve.
A QUINT-MAS CAROL is a comedic short film (5 minutes) about Uncle Quint giving his “interpretation” of “Twas The Night Before Christmas” to his two little nieces on Christmas Eve.
It was written, produced and stars Mark Atkinson (SELENA: THE SERIES) as Uncle Quint and was directed by Justin Burquist. The short film is a Kahuna Productions (Mark Atkinson’s production company) production that also produced THE PATIO: A BAD PARODY TO A BAD MOVIE.
A QUINT-MAS CAROL was an official selection to several film festivals and was awarded BEST COMEDY at the Various Artist Independent Film Festival in 2017. This particular award meant a lot because it was judged and awarded by Bob Gale, creator of the BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy and good friend of Steven Spielberg. When presenting the award Bob Gale was quoted as saying “This movie is hilarious for anybody who is a big fan of JAWS as I am, having seen JAWS about 25 or 30 times since it was released. It made me laugh a lot. Good performances. Some unexpected laughs.”
A QUINT-MAS CAROL will be re-released on Amazon Prime just in time of the holidays! Just when you thought it was safe to open Christmas presents...
