Watching Jaws With A Shark Scientist

Just when you thought it was safe to watch Jaws...with a shark scientist!

How accurate is Jaws when it comes to shark behaviours and habits?

We all know that the Steven Spielberg classic from 1975 is a fictional Hollywood movie, and not a documentary, but what did Jaws get right and get wrong about sharks? And how has the study of sharks changed in the last four decades since Jaws was made?

Ross from The Daily Jaws takes a look at the head, the tail, the whole damn thing from the perspective of a real life Matt Hooper (right down to his beard and city hands).

Ross from The Daily Jaws (left) and real life Matt Hooper Kristian Parton about to dive into the world of JAWS!

He's joined by shark scientist Kristian Parton from 'Shark Bytes', Add what it is, who metaphorically head to Amity Island to dissect the greatest film in shark cinema.

Ross and Kristian discuss the validity measuring of bite radius (and all that crap)

Together they discuss how realistic the attacks on Chrissie Watkins, Alex Kintner, the pier incident scene, the estuary victim and the demise of Quint are. Not forgetting Ben Gardner, who pops up in conversation as well.

The pair also look at other key Jaws moments, including the Hooper cage scene, ask if a Great White shark would jump onto your boat (bigger or otherwise) and discuss that explosive ending with Brody and the shark.

Ross and Kristian still scared by Ben Gardner’s head - even though they’ve both seen the movie a thousand times before!

Join them on their journey of discovery as they talk all things Jaws and analyze the accuracy, probability (it's a hundred to one Martin, a hundred to one), craft and execution of all the essential shark action.

This is one video that demands to be seen, before it swims up and bites you on the ass!
