The Shark Is Broken: An Interview with director Guy Masterson

Quint may have been captain of the Orca in JAWS (1975). but skipper of The Shark Is Broken is Guy Masterson, who has successfully navigated the show from two pre-Edinburgh shows in Brighton, The Edinburgh Fringe, London’s West End, Toronto in Canada and it now having docked on Broadway.

An acclaimed director and actor - his uncle was also Richard Burton - before embarking on the US debut of the show, which stars and is co-written by Ian Shaw who the son of JAWS legend Robert Shaw, Masterson lent his theatrical tones to a two-part podcast, one of the hosts who is his brother.

Does that make them the Mike and Sean Brody of The Shark Is Broken? Who knows, but we doubt they’ll be arguing about who has Cheerios and Fruit Loops.

Step aboard this fascinating two-part The Wrong Side of Hollywood podcast as they chart the rise and rise of The Shark Is Broken director Guy Masterson to The Wrong Side of Hollywood!

We’ll have a serious chinwag with Hoff’s brother and Prof’s friend about his humble beginnings, a road trip of a lifetime with a movie star, and charting his globetrotting journey from one man show in his mum’s garden to becoming a world class actor, producer and big league West End/Broadway theatre director. From Hadley Wood to Hollywood, from Edinburgh to Broadway. There’s no business like show business!

About The Wrong Side of Hollywood Podcast

James & Martin are two Brits who grew up in North London. Now, years later find themselves stuck living next door to each other in North Hollywood. Having had varying degrees of success in the film and television industry, the bitter pair will share their experiences of what it’s like being a foreigner living and working in Tinsel Town. They'll be interviewing more successful notables and discussing everything from fish and chips to things that just utterly wind them up.

Side note: Martin used to be a child actor on a TV show called Murphy’s Mob back in the 80’s. His character was called “Prof”. And according to Martin, I resembled the Hoffmeister bear back then so he nicknamed me “Hoff.” - That’s where our pseudenyms Hoff & Prof came from.
