The Black Demon Vs Evil Dead Rise as shark film and horror sequel go head-to-head

It's groovy for film fans as a new shark thriller, The Black Demon, is set to go toe to toe at the US box office on April 21st against the sequel to the 2013 Evil Dead film – which was a remake of the Sam Raimi 1980 horror classic - with Evil Dead Rise.

The Josh Lucas-starring shark film will release directly against the horror sequel, which could have a real impact on its box office bite radius.

The Black Demon is based on the legend of a huge shark that patrols Mexican waters and Josh Lucas and his family are in its way on a crumbling oil rig. Its screenplay is by Boise Esquerra, who knows a thing or two about terror in the water having penned the crocodile horror. Blackwater.

Behind the camera is Rambo: Last Blood director, Adrian Grunberg, so action scenes should at least have some zest about them. It’s star Josh Lucas isn't unfamiliar to water-based thrills having starred in Wolfgang Peterson's Poseidon, which also starred Jaws alumni Richard Dreyfuss.

“Okay Josh, you can drive the boat.”

Although The Poseidon Adventure remake proved that having a bigger boat didn't necessarily mean things were any better, this time though he'll have to worry about a bigger shark, a megalodon.

Both The Black Demon and Evil Dead Rise currently have a theatrical release date of April 21, 2023. And if we have a poster and first trailer for Evil Dead Rise one can only hope that it isn’t long before both breach the surface for The Black Demon.

And will you be going to see the demon fish or the demon people?
