Robert Shaw Documentary: Jaws, Deoch and Deora
“He was a force of nature.”
As Quint in Jaws, Robert Shaw gave us one of the most funny, tragic and vulnerable characters ever seen on screen. Already an Oscar-nominated actor, celebrated author, father of 10 children, and husband to three wives, Robert had battled James Bond in 'From Russia With Love' and a great white shark in 'Jaws.' He won rave reviews for his performance as Henry VIII in 'A Man for All Seasons' and was the memorable foil for Redford and Newman in 'The Sting.' He wrote novels, plays, and screenplays, appeared in 56 movies.
At the age of just 51, Robert Shaw died after suffering a heart attack on an Irish roadside in a Gaeltacht community, the place he had come to call home. In 2015, Brian Reddin wrote, produced and directed the documentary Robert Shaw: Jaws, Deoch and Deora and tells the extraordinary story of legendary actor Robert Shaw and his adopted home of Tuar Mhic Éadaigh.
"In honour of Robert Shaw who lived in Tourmakeady. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam." (May he rest in peace.)
Robert Shaw Memorial Ireland Mayo Ballinrobe
“A decent documentary about the actor Robert Shaw; made for Irish TV, which explains not only the Gaelic subtitles when a new interviewee appears but its emphasis on the small community in County Mayo where he lived at the end of his life. The concentrating on his latter years (he deep-sixed his writing and stage careers and did movies of varying quality to support his family, dying quite young) makes it a little sad, but all interviewees seem to have fond memories of him.”
