Quentin Tarantino names his perfect seven films, including Jaws

The director of The Hateful Eight has announced his magnificent seven, a group of films which Quentin Tarantino things are unparalleled.

Opinionated and outspoken he may be, but the former video store worker, and now influential writer and director of Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, knows his movies. And knows what he likes.

Having written a new book, Cinema Speculation, the Oscar winner has been promoting it and in turn talking about the films that influenced him when growing up in the 1970s and continue to have an impact on him to this day.

Tarantino said: "Look, when you say perfect movies you’re talking about any individual person’s aesthetic, but even trying to account for all aesthetics, perfect movies kind of cross all aesthetics to one degree or another.”

Measuring greatness

None the less, these are the seven perfect cinematic wonders in the world of Quentin Tarantino, which he mentioned during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

In chronological order they are:

Sam Peckinpah’s The Wild Bunch (1969)
William Friedkin's The Exorcist (1973)
Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
Mel Brook's Young Frankenstein (1974)
Steven Spielberg's Jaws (1975)
Woody Allen's Annie Hall (1977)
Robert Zemeckis' Back To The Future (1985)

That is an impressive shelf, with something for everyone, but we all know it is subjective and everyone's list will be different, so what makes your super seven of cinema?
